Research Administration
THRiVE has supported research administrators and managers (RAM) at the partner institutions to enhance their knowledge and skills in research administration and management. This has enabled institutions to build firm foundations of human resources and support mechanisms to efficiently and effectively manage grants and contracts. THRiVE has also enabled its RAM to network and share best practices and challenges with other research administration through support to attend regional and international meetings organized by the Association of Research Administrators in Africa (ARAA), Society of Research Administrators international (SRA), International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) and Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA).
Cambridge-Africa Partnership for Research Excellence CAPREx provided yet another opportunity for THRiVE RAM to acquire skills, resources and networks to enable them become competitive and successful RAMs in complex resource limited research environments.
Four institutions (KCMC, UVRI and Makerere University College of Health Sciences) benefitted from the THRiVE mini-sabbatical grants that enabled RAM from THRiVE institutions to visit partner institutions in the south and north to learn from their contemporaries. Dennison Kizito a Senior Laboratory technologist based at the UVRI visited colleagues at the LSHTM, Amina Farah from KCMC plus Harriet Nambooze and Regina Namirembe benefitted tremendously from a visits to the LSHTM and Cambridge University.
