DINAH AMONGIN
THRiVE-2 PhD Fellow

Dr Amongin is currently a lecturer in the Department of Health Policy Planning and Management at Makerere University’s School of Public Health. She recently earned a PhD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Makerere University having successfully defended her thesis on August 23 2021. For her PhD research, she sought to understand trends and trajectories of repeat adolescent birth in Uganda. She also holds two masters’ degrees- one in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and another in Public Health from the University of Manchester.

Previously, she was a lecturer in the Department of Public Health at Busitema University and Academic director and lecturer in the Department of Pubic Health at Uganda Christian University. In the last 15 years, she has conducted extensive research as a principal investigator, co-investigator and coordinator. For example, she was Principal Investigator and Project Lead on an 18-months cluster randomized trial that evaluated the impact of the Helping Mothers Survive Bleeding After Birth training programme to manage postpartum hemorrhage. Amongin was also the principal investigator of the study that investigated the effects of subsequent pregnancies on HIV disease progression among women in Mulago Hospital’s mother to child transmission care programme.

Amongin’s ambition is to become leading researcher in reproductive health and mentor young researchers in the area of reproductive, maternal and child health.
