THRiVE-2 Advisory Board chair, Prof. Wilfred Mbacham was awarded the World Academy of Sciences Regional Office for Sub-Saharan Africa (TWAS-ROSSA) prize for Africa for the Public Understanding and Popularization of Science. This prize is awarded in fulfilment of the TWAS objective of recognising, supporting and promoting scientific capacity and excellence in the developing world.
Prof. Mbacham Fon Wilfred is a Titular Prof of Public Health Biotechnology. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Zoology and a Doctorat de Specialité in Molecular Parasitology from the University of Yaoundé I (1989) and a Doctor of Science Degree in Tropical Public Health from Harvard University in (1997).
He researches at the Biotechnology Center (BTC) and teaches at the Faculties of Science and of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Yaoundé I. He is a fellow of the Cameroon Academy of Sciences and African Academy of Sciences.
His current research focuses on pharmacogenomics and response to drugs, the molecular diversity and epidemiology of drug resistance in Malaria, HIV & Tuberculosis. He also researches on the development of bio-reagents with the co-discovery of a thermostable peroxidase. He has developed the Pro. P.A.S.T.E.U.R., a philosophy that popularizes and integrates platforms/techno-poles for biosciences, hard core physical sciences and research-uptake
