Childhood Obesity Prevention Education

Mary Vincent Mosha a Lecturer at KCMUCo and a THRiVE PhD fellow and her research is focused on Understanding modifiable factors associated with childhood overweight and obesity in Tanzanian primary schools. She has recently held a community led education activity to address the importance of healthy eating and lifestyle behaviors in a group of women. The focus was on improving healthy behaviours in children. Topics covered were:

  • food groups and nutrients, and the role of each food group and nutrient,
  • practical sessions were done by adopting the ‘healthy plate model’ for healthy eating behaviours.
  • Advice was given on body weight management.
